From the recording Helium
This is a very personal song about dealing with rejection, which, like most people, I have experienced more than a few times. I wrote it as motivational medicine to help me to continue to believe in myself and my abilities. I hope it helps others the way it has me!
Lyrics
Verse 1:
Another day face down in the dirt
I’d be lying if I said it didn’t hurt
Another day waiting for my turn
But that’s not how it works
Pre-Chorus:
It’s starting to feel like I’ll never win
Gotta pick myself up, go at it again ‘cause
Chorus:
My soul is made of Helium
Designed to rise
The laws of gravity I’ll defy
So don’t you try to hold me down
No rope is made that strong
My fire will burn right through and I’ll be gone
It may take a little longer
But I’ll be stronger
Verse 2:
Climb the ladder one rung at a time
When some get to start at the finish line
Once again left behind
But what time is mine?
Pre-Chorus:
It’s starting to feel like I’ll never win
Gotta pick myself up, go at it again ‘cause
Chorus:
My soul is made of Helium
Designed to rise
The laws of gravity I’ll defy
So don’t you try to hold me down
No rope is made that strong
My fire will burn right through and I’ll be gone
It may take a little longer
But I’ll be stronger
Bridge:
I’m a rocket, rejection’s my fuel
My tank is full because this world can be cruel
So knock me down, and fill it up
Listen closely ‘cause I’m about to erupt!
Chorus: (Twice)
My soul is made of Helium
Designed to rise
The laws of gravity I’ll defy
So don’t you try to hold me down
No rope is made that strong
My fire will burn right through and I’ll be gone
It may take a little longer
But I’ll be stronger!
